Discover Little Pohutukawa Preschool - a Modern Early Childhood Centre

About
Little Pohutukawa Preschool

Little Pohutukawa is a spacious and modern purpose built early childhood centre. The indoor environments are designed to flow and allow the staff to regularly change the environments to cater for the children’s individual and collective needs and interests.

Little Pohutukawa Preschool is on the corner of Apollo Drive and Orbit Drive in the Rosedale - Albany area, handy to Browns Bay, Mairangi Bay, the Northern Motorway and Constellation Drive. Easy to find and access, our preschool centre is a great option for children whose parents work or live near the area.

Our beautiful modern purpose-built early childhood centre has been designed to provide a welcoming environment with specific areas designed for infants and babies to have quiet time and spaces for toddlers and preschool children to play indoors, or outdoors in our large playground area.  Our preschool classrooms are well equipped with exciting learning areas for children to enjoy and succeed in learning.  All classrooms open to the outside play ground where children and teachers feel intimately connected to the learning environment.

Our extra-large playground exceeds the Ministry of Education requirements and children are encouraged to engage in physical active play during all seasons. This well designed playground for young children is where our tamariki can grow and run, play on the monkey bars, play hide and seek, build sand castles and nurture their own gardens.

At Little Pohutukawa Preschool we also have the use of a recreation reserve across the road to explore and make discoveries. By creating a nurturing and stimulating environment we hope to open children’s hearts and minds to the unlimited experiences in the world around them.

All our ECE Teachers are fully Qualified and Certified and we pride ourselves on high quality low child - teacher ratios for more personal attention.

We do offer 20 Free ECE Hours per week, and meals are provided as part of our healthy food programme which uses a variety of fresh, locally supplied produce.

We support parents by providing a wide choice of hours for your child to attend, from day care style hours to preschool sessions. Our four classrooms cater for babies, toddlers and preschoolers all ages from young babies right through to preparing children for school and we can provide care from birth to 6 years of age.

If you're curious about child care options, come and see us. We're very happy to show you around the preschool centre and talk about your child's needs.

Our Mission Statement

Our goal is to give each child a warm environment to encourage the development of socialisation skills, independence and a positive self-image.

Our experienced early childhood teaching staff embrace the view that each child is an unique person with an individual pattern and timing of social, physical and intellectual development.

The teachers at our preschool centre encourage children to think for themselves, make decisions and work towards their own solutions by expressing their own ideas and feelings.

Our Purpose

We are a local family owned and operated preschool centre that strives on providing children with excellent care in a warm and nurturing early childhood environment. We strive to inspire our tamariki to develop a healthy, happy and secure approach to living and learning; thus, meeting the individual needs of all our children and fostering a sense of curiosity and wonderment amongst all, inspiring them to become life long learners.

Our early childcare team believe in providing a wide range of stimulating and engaging learning experiences that challenge children’s working theories and encouraging to them to explore these theories further. Children are encouraged to develop their personal capabilities, strengths, interests and learning styles.

Our preschool centre's Teachers are encouraged to strive for continued growth and development within Early Childhood Education, using this to respond to the diverse needs of our tamariki. We collectively value our bicultural curriculum and use this as the foundation to ensuring we honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi through our practice and policies as well as within our environment.

We are a diverse multicultural team with rich knowledge about our learners as well as our community, fostering a sense of whanaungatanga in our learning community and encouraging growth amongst our teaching team, our children and their whanau.
